Study Tips

As pilots in training, we took a total of more than 30 exams, ranging from the BAK all the way through to the ATPL’s. During this time, we created a study method that greatly influenced our performance, both in our own exams and those of our students. Since Launch Ready does not provide theory instruction, this study method is designed to assist in passing exams. Although students can achieve success without using theory providers or textbooks, we highly recommend having a robust understanding of the theory behind the questions before attempting the exams.

Pass the CASA exam

STEP 1
Once you have completed the appropriate theory, select our first exam under the appropriate Licence or Exam you are sitting. Don’t rush this one, it’s ok if you takes you longer than the time set for the real exam.

We understand having to guess between 2 answers you believe could be correct is a common part of an exam, and that’s fine, although we recommended not guessing answers for questions that you don’t understand, if you guess correctly, you may not remember to come back to it after the exam. Feel free to leave questions like this without an answer, as they will be grouped into the revision session after you have finished.

STEP 2
After you complete the exam, you will be shown all the questions you either answered incorrectly, or did not answer at all. This is a critical stage.

Write down the topic of the incorrect question and revisit the theory behind each one. This is the important stage that prevents you from just remembering the question (rote learning) to understanding the question and being able to answer all similar questions with ease.

STEP 3
Now its time for a second attempt at answering the questions you got incorrect, if you read the theory well this should be no problem.

We allow up to 3 resits for free, however, we recommend repeating the same exam no more than twice. Once you have covered the questions you got incorrect, its time to move on to the next exam and repeat the process

TIME LIMIT As you move through the pilot practice exams, attempt to sit them within the time limit prescribed for your real exam. see time limits here.

PERMITTED MATERIAL When doing the practice exams, try and use any permitted material. This will help you get comfortable and familiar with the documents, maps and equipment, so you will be efficient and minimise time waste in your real exam. See permitted material here.
